Jamie:

Nice post.

Steve Jobs may have helped frame this a bit too. His quote (as I recall it) was that "you can't connect the dots in front of you ... you can only connect the dots when you look back and see the patterns."

Awesome, awesome, awesome. "Blog grenade"? ROTFL! I'm happy everyone's biting though!

You are so right - going (a bit) mainstream is not mutually exclusive with keeping your edge. I think that is exactly the transition we are facing as a generation - others said this too in their comments on my post - we're no longer just gaining youthful experience, we now find ourselves in positions of leadership.

And having friends and communities that keep us on our toes and insist on us keeping that edge, well I don't know if that's uniquely Gen-X but I certainly agree that's what I want and need from mine too - and what I don't hesitate to do in return!

Wow, who would have thought a couple questions in a grungy Mexican bar in Scottsdale, AZ, would have led to this type of great insight! Thanks for sharing this Jamie. I wish you had been with us that night because I would have liked to pick your brain, like I did Maddie & Lindy's!

Thanks for the shout out in this post too!

What an interesting perspective on the meme. I've never lost my edge, even if I sold out a long, long time ago. Like 1991.
